Full disclosure: This article is written by Jacob Liu, founder of Tipsy Moment. Everything reflects our own perspective. I include a specific section later telling you when to choose someone else — because you deserve to make the right decision.

It was a humid afternoon in May last year when the temperature in Taipei soared to 30 degrees Celsius, and an afternoon thunderstorm rolled in without warning. I received a phone call, and though the voice on the other end was soft, it carried a weight that tightened my chest.
Her name was Hsiao Wei, introduced to us by one of our long-time customers. Her boyfriend was in Seattle, and two weeks before her birthday, he began making arrangements. He searched every major platform, compared countless reviews, and finally chose a cake shop that claimed to be “Taiwan’s #1 home delivery service.”
And then what happened?
The moment she opened the box, the carefully designed ombre mousse had collapsed into a puddle of purple mush. The rose petals were shattered, the chocolate chips were broken, and even the “Happy Birthday” inscription had slid onto the inside of the lid.
When she sent the photo to her boyfriend, she typed just one line: “Thank you, the cake is so beautiful.”
Then she turned off her phone.
That phone call changed how I define “delivery”
I’m Jacob, founder of Tipsy Moment. As an engineer by training, I’ve always let data speak — 0.1g alcohol precision, ±0.5°C temperature control, delivery schedules accurate to the minute.
But that day, I learned something data cannot measure:
For lovers separated by distance, a ruined cake doesn’t just destroy dessert—it destroys every ounce of courage and care someone mustered across time zones to plan something perfect.
Later, Hsiao Wei told me her boyfriend spent days blaming himself when he learned the truth.
When I heard that, I held my phone in silence for a long time.
Because I remembered a customer complaint from three years before: “The cake was ruined, and so was my wife’s birthday.” I thought it was an isolated incident then. I later discovered—it’s a systemic problem across the entire industry.
The “last mile” of logistics is where love becomes most fragile
Did you know? According to our internal data, the “perfect delivery rate” for traditional cake logistics during summer heat can drop below 70%.
What does that mean? Out of every ten people eagerly opening a box, three might find a “disaster scene” instead.
And for someone sending gifts from overseas, this risk multiplies infinitely:
- You cannot personally verify the packaging condition
- You cannot immediately resolve any delivery issues
- You don’t even know what your loved one actually receives
Your love gets sealed in a black box, jolted through an unknown supply chain. Only when they open it do you discover—was it a beautiful surprise or a disappointment?
I cannot accept that kind of gamble with romance.
407 days: building a “zero surprises” personal delivery system
After Hsiao Wei’s story, I made a decision: I would personally solve this problem.
I flew to America and visited the concierge departments of several luxury hotels. I wanted to know how brands commanding tens of thousands of dollars ensure every gift arrives in perfect condition.
The answer was simple, yet extraordinarily difficult to execute—personal delivery, with genuine ceremony.
Back in Taiwan, I spent 407 days completely redesigning our delivery system:
1. Professional Temperature-Controlled Equipment
Our delivery boxes aren’t standard insulated bags—they’re custom-engineered thermal systems maintaining 0-4°C throughout. Even in a humid 30-degree afternoon downpour, your cake stays pristine.
2. Platinum Concierge Ambassadors
Our delivery personnel aren’t called “drivers”—they’re “Concierge Ambassadors.” They wear formal attire, white gloves, and professional training. When someone cradles a cake like it’s something precious and presents it at your door with genuine respect, that speaks volumes.
3. Precision Delivery Windows Down to the Minute
Choose our [Classic Tipsy] or [Premier Ceremony] package, and you can specify delivery to the exact minute—2:03 PM, not “sometime between 2-4 PM.” If we’re late due to our fault, full refund.
4. Live Video Connection
This is my proudest feature. When the doorbell rings, our Concierge Ambassador opens a live video call. You witness it all through the screen—her confusion turning to surprise, to glistening eyes in that precious moment.
I’ll never forget the first time we tested this: a client in London watching his girlfriend receive the cake, tears streaming down his face on camera.
He said: “This is the first time I felt like I was actually there.”
Whatever happened to Hsiao Wei?
Three months after that call, her boyfriend returned to Taiwan for Christmas. He contacted us early to book our [Premier Ceremony] package.
Our Concierge Ambassador appeared punctually downstairs at her office, cradling our thermal box containing “Crimson Poem”—our signature raspberry, lychee, and rose mousse infused with a delicate gin accent.
As Hsiao Wei opened the box, her boyfriend—visible on the video call—dropped to one knee.
The cake read: “This time, I won’t let anything ruin this moment. Will you marry me?”
When she said yes, our Concierge Ambassador quietly stepped back, but I knew his eyes were glistening too.
Later, Hsiao Wei messaged me: “Jacob, thank you. That day, I finally believed—distance really isn’t an obstacle.”
If you’re also separated from someone by an ocean
I know how difficult long-distance feels. The goodnights you miss because of time zones. The everyday moments you can only share through screens. The nights you want to embrace but can only send emojis.
I cannot shorten the distance for you, but I can promise—when you decide to send your heart, it arrives in absolute perfection.
No collapse. No melting. No disaster delivered instead of devotion.
This is my promise to every long-distance lover, and the reason Tipsy Moment exists.
Currently, our Platinum Concierge personal delivery service covers Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Taichung. If the person you’re thinking of happens to be in one of these places—
Let us be your hands, giving them the embrace you cannot.

When You Should NOT Choose Tipsy Moment
Long-distance love is real. Long-distance cake delivery across the Taiwan Strait is not currently viable — and pretending otherwise would be its own kind of betrayal. Here’s what the logistics actually allow.
- Delivery destination is mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau: Cross-strait shipping for fresh perishables involves customs declaration, cold chain breaks, and transit times that exceed what our cake structure can withstand. We cannot guarantee quality — or even delivery — across this route. We won’t take an order we know will fail.
- International shipping to any destination outside Taiwan: Fresh cream, spirit-infused ganache, and temperature-sensitive layers are incompatible with standard international courier timelines. Even express international shipping exceeds our product’s shelf stability at ambient temperature. Distance is a hard constraint, not a premium service tier.
- You need customs clearance for food items: Many countries restrict or prohibit importing alcohol-containing food products without permits. The recipient clearing customs with a whisky cake is not a reliable gifting plan — and the risk of confiscation is entirely real.
- The gesture requires physical presence to land correctly: Some gifts only work when you’re there. If the relationship needs you — not a package — then the most honest thing we can do is tell you that no cake bridges that particular distance. Call first. Send the cake when you’re back in the same city.
Distance has never been a real absence.
